Bakkt Reportedly Preparing to Launch Cash-Settled Bitcoin Futures

According to Adam White, the COO of Bakkt, the crypto custodian and Bitcoin futures exchange subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the startup is hoping to launch cash-settled Bitcoin futures before the end of the year.

Per a report by Coindesk, White said that Bakkt was planning to offer cash-settled Bitcoin futures, in addition to its existing daily and monthly physically-settled Bitcoin futures. Coindesk was told by sources familiar with the matter that this new product will be offered via ICE Clear Singapore. The report also says that Bakkt is hoping to launch before the end of 2019, but that it still has not received the go-ahead from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Binance plans to support all 180 currencies for its direct fiat-to-crypto trading facility

At a meetup in Singapore Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao made several important announcements, one of which was to support 180 currencies for its fiat-to-crypto trading services. Zhao said: 

“One of the key things I want to do for the next few months – six to nine months or so – is to get those other 180 onboarded onto Binance.com,”

Currently, Binance only supports 5 fiat currencies - Nigerian naira (NGN) and Russian ruble (RUB), euro (EUR), Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) and Kazakhstani tenge (KZT). Binance's strategy to give customers "direct access to the large liquidity" involves building fiat on-ramps around the world with third parties.

Canada's Biggest Bank Reportedly Looking to Launch a Cryptocurrency Exchange

The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the country’s biggest bank with over $900 billion in total assets, is reportedly looking to launch its own cryptocurrency exchange.

According to The Logic, four public patent applications the RBC filed reveal it’s looking to create a cryptocurrency trading platform, and could also let customers buy crypto in-store and online. Moreover, the patents show the bank is looking to let customers open bank accounts containing crypto.

The bank is said to already be using blockchain technology, with its CEO Dave McKay saying earlier this year it was looking to tokenize a variety of assets to register them on a blockchain. Some of its other uses for decentralized ledger technology include verifying client identities.
