Market Update - Bitcoin Hits $10,000!

Yesterday, Bitcoin achieved a historic milestone, surpassing the $10,000 mark for the first time in its short history.

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $10,625, representing a gain of 7.8% in the last 24 hours. The total market capitalization of Bitcoin is over $177.5 billion, following the establishment of a new all-time high of roughly $10,744 earlier today. More than $1.3B worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market, representing a 19.5% share of daily volume, second to the JPY at 63.8%.

Currently sitting at $471, the Ethereum price has dropped 0.5% in the last day. Over $320M worth of Ether were exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 30.5% market share of the daily trading volume.

Bitcoin Cash dropped 2.5% over the last 24-hours, with BCH currently trading at $1,524. More than $190M worth of BCH were exchanged on the BCH/USD pair and the current market cap for Bitcoin Cash is $25.6 B

The First DPOS Lightning Bitcoin Hard Fork is on the Way

After Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Diamond, another forked-coin is coming on the way. Lightning Bitcoin, a project initiated by a European team, will become the first forked-coin to adopt the DPOS consensus mechanism.

The Lightning Bitcoin (LBTC) will fork at block 499,999 or around the 23rd of December, 2017. The team aims to make Bitcoin transfers as fast as lightning, or at a maximum of 24 million transactions a day. The answer to this is the DPOS mechanism, according to the project’s proponents. The official website reads:

"The DPOS consensus will significantly reduce the number of participating verification nodes and help LBTC reach consensus in seconds and boost the transaction speed to really be as fast as lightning."

Japan’s BitFlyer Opens Bitcoin Exchange in the United States

The Tokyo-based Bitcoin exchange bitFlyer has announced its official expansion into the United States and has also been granted a BitLicense to operate in New York.

Announced today, the official launch of bitflyer USA follows a closed beta where 2,000 select traders bought and sold Bitcoin through the newly launched platform. bitFlyer, Japan’s largest bitcoin exchange by trading volume, established an office in San Francisco in August and notably revealed it had already obtained regulatory approval to operate in 34 states. The bitFlyer's CEO, Yuzo Kano, stated:

"bitFlyer is proud to have been granted a BitLicense to do business in the state of New York. This is a nod of approval from one of the most influential state financial services regulators in the nation.”

Bitcoin ABC Developers Announce Medium-Term Bitcoin Cash Roadmap

Yesterday, the Bitcoin ABC development team released its medium-term plans for the Bitcoin Cash roadmap. Developers say that the proposal represents the goals for the next 6-12 months. The organization is also collaborating with seven other development teams who have a shared vision. The Bitcoin ABC roadmap reads:

“Bitcoin ABC developers have been collaborating and communicating with developers and representatives from several projects, including Bitcoin Unlimited, Bitprim, Nchain, Bitcrust, ElectrumX, Parity, and Bitcoin XT."
