Crypto Markets Rise Led by Ethereum and Korea

The crypto markets have rallied with ethereum leading on a 12% increase in relation to bitcoin. Korean markets are in the ascendancy trading at a $19 or 6.7% premia to the USD markets at an equivalent value of $302 on a direct cross rate. Volumes have again increased with KRW at a 26% market share of trading. 

The same premium is visible in Korea on the Bitcoin markets with direct price conversions showing a $150 premium or 6.3% differential. Volumes are not so dominated in terms of market share with Korea only showing a 9.6% portion - although this has increased significantly this year.

Asus Will Build New Graphic Cards Focused on Cryptocurrency Mining

Taiwan-based manufacturer Asus revealed the Mining RX 470 and Mining P106, which were designed to handle the energy and heat intensive process of mining. Though not expressly pitched as such, the release is undoubtedly aimed at capturing some of the interest in mining Ethereum. Bitcoin mining, by comparison, has evolved to a stage in which application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs, are required to compete.

A new virus displaying behavior markedly similar to WannaCry is attacking Russian and Ukrainian company computers.According to local reports, the Petya virus is locking computers and demanding payment of a $300 ransom in Bitcoins to regain control.

Coin.mx operator tied to hacks gets five-and-a-half years U.S. prison

A Florida man was sentenced on Tuesday to 5-1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to operating an illegal Bitcoin exchange suspected of laundering money for hackers and linked to a data breach at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Anthony Murgio, 33, of Tampa, pleaded guilty on Jan. 9 to three conspiracy counts, including bank fraud and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business.

The sentence was roughly half as long as prosecutors had sought. Murgio and co-conspirators were accused of processing millions of dollars from 2013 to 2015 into the virtual currency bitcoin through the unlicensed exchange Coin.mx. 

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan said during the sentencing hearing:

"Mr. Murgio led an effort based on ambition and greed," and constructed on a "pyramid of lies"

Bitcoin is up 5.8% at $2,543.30 with a volume of Ƀ 147,418 - $371m on the USD pairs.

Litecoin is up 4% against the dollar for the day at $39.61 and up 4% to Ƀ 0.01575 on volumes of Ƀ 12k.

Ether is up 11% against Bitcoin at Ƀ 0.1116 per Ether and up 17.6% against the dollar to $281.30 with average volume Ƀ 100k on the ETH/BTC pair.

Dash is up 6% at Ƀ 0.07195 with Ƀ 4955k volume and up 9.7% against the dollar at $177.8.

Ripple is up 0.6% to Ƀ 0.0001017 with volumes of Ƀ 9158k and up 6.98% against the dollar at $0.2561.

Zcash is up 2% for the day to Ƀ 0.1291 per ZEC and up 8% against the dollar to $324 with an average volume of Ƀ 6k for the 24 hour period.

Monero is up 11.94% against the dollar at $44.71 and up 4.5% against Bitcoin at Ƀ 0.01777 on volumes of Ƀ 2.6k.

Ether Classic is down 1% to Ƀ 0.007131 with volumes of Ƀ 9k and up 6% against the dollar at $17.95.

Stratis is up 17% to Ƀ 0.002628 on Ƀ 2.8k volume.

Waves is down 0.18% to Ƀ 0.001674 on Ƀ 807k volume.
