MGT Capital Investments to Mine Ether and Ether Classic
MGT Capital Investments has recently announced a pilot program to mine Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. Through an agreement with Bit5ive LLC, MGT Capital Investments will purchase up to 60 graphics processor-based mining computers which will use high-end graphic cards and CPUs to mine both Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC). John McAfee seems to be bullish about the revenue that both these cryptocurrencies can bring the company, stating:
"We are more convinced each day of the growth and value of digital currencies, and our Company is uniquely positioned to be a leading provider of processing power to relevant blockchains. The addition of Ethereum and Ethereum Classic to our crypto mining strategies is expected to be very profitable for us."

The FBI Received Over 2,600 Ransomware Complaints in 2016
Published yesterday, the annual review of cybersecurity threats from the law enforcement agency's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) outlined a range of statistics, including the number of submissions it received regarding ransomware. According to the IC3's report, 2,673 complaints were submitted, with losses of over $2.4m reported during that period. The number represents a small fraction of the 298,728 cybercrime-related complaints that IC3 said it received overall in 2016. All told, losses in 2016 connected to these activities constituted a reported $1.3bn.

OneCoin 'License' is a Fake, Says Vietnamese Government
The government of Vietnam is speaking out after promoters of OneCoin, the cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme, claimed it had been granted a formal a license to operate by the country's Department of Management. According to BehindMLM, which tracks multi-level marketing schemes worldwide, the government moved to issue a swift denial after receiving questions from those who ostensibly were pitched to buy OneCoin.
Specifically, the Vietnamese government said that purported licensure documents shared on social media were fakes with forged signatures. Since then, OneCoin promoters in Vietnam have moved to pull down posts about the alleged license.

BitPay Phishing Email Discovered
The proliferation of scams in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency world continues, even as the values show signs of stability. The most recent of which appears to be a phishing email sent under the name of bitpay.org, the payment and settlement service for cryptocurrencies. After a number of users reported the email to the company, one of the leads for BitPay released a public service announcement via Reddit, warning users. The announcement included the following statement reads:
“This is not a legitimate BitPay email and is a clear phishing attempt. If you receive this email do not open its contents and certainly do not click on any link, button, or attachment.”
